Native Title Legal Officer
Experience:  2 + Years PAE
Location:  Cairns or possible remote WFH with travel

Our Client
A respected not-for-profit organisation is seeking a skilled and motivated Native Title Legal Officer to deliver expert legal services in a specialised area of law. This organisation provides support and capacity building to native title holders, working collaboratively to achieve meaningful social, cultural and economic outcomes.

About the Role
Reporting to the Principal Legal Officer, the Native Title Legal Officer will provide high-quality legal services and advice across native title law, mining, land and sea tenure, and related fields. You will engage in a broad range of work including litigation, negotiation, stakeholder engagement, legal research, and policy development.

This is a unique opportunity for a capable solicitor who is passionate about working in partnership with First Nations communities and supporting self-determination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate, timely legal advice and representation.

  • Assist with the preparation, management and conduct of native title claims, agreements and related applications.

  • Draft legal documents including pleadings, submissions, and briefs to counsel.

  • Represent clients before courts and tribunals as required.

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with clients, stakeholders and external consultants.

  • Support native title holders to manage their rights and interests effectively.

  • Contribute to governance, policy development, and risk management activities.

About You
  • Admitted or eligible for admission as a solicitor in Queensland.

  • 2 years + PAE - Demonstrated experience in native title, property, administrative law, or litigation.

  • Strong technical skills in legal drafting, advocacy and negotiation.

  • A commitment to working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

  • High-level communication, collaboration and project management skills.

  • Ability to travel for work as required, including to regional and remote areas.
