He has experience recruiting senior legal roles and legal management roles for a range of law firms in New Zealand. He also has experience in recruitment leadership for a large corporate. Jarrod joined the Elias Recruitment team in April 2024.Jarrod lives in Auckland with his 4 boys and when he's not spending time with his boys and all their activities, he enjoys triathlon, mountain biking, ocean swimming and cycling.Jarrod holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences and a Post Graduate Diploma in Commerce.

An amazing opportunity to work in the legal team in a complex and intellectually challenging environment providing legal services and advice on a wide range of matters. This role provides the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks in a supportive and friendly team, working closely with other teams to provide practical solutions to legal issues. There are multiple roles available at varying levels and can be based in most major cities in Australia.

About the Organisation

The organisation is a key Commonwealth financial regulator. The legal team provides legal and litigation support to all areas of operations and legal advice on administrative law, contracts, and other matters relevant to our corporate governance with a whole of Commonwealth focus.

About the Role
  • Review, prepare, and manage litigation matters and assist with more complex litigation.
  • Appearing in Tribunal proceedings and direct briefing counsel
  • Analyse, interpret, and apply legislation to policies, practices, and precedents to resolve complex legal issues and provide legal advice and dispute resolution services.
  • Conduct research, prepare court documents and correspondence when undertaking complex litigation – escalating to the Senior Lawyer or Principal Lawyer as appropriate.
  • May lead small operations teams and improve legally sound decision making by developing staff capability and mentoring less experienced staff.
  • Partner and collaborate with business areas within the organisation to foresee legal challenges and take proactive measures to resolve them.
  • Prepare briefings provided to the Chief Executive and the organisation's Executive Committee, and the Attorney-General’s Department on legal, governance and practice issues.
  • Ensure knowledge of and compliance with legislative, financial, and administrative frameworks, government decision-making processes and agency guidelines and regulations.
About You:
  • Bachelor degree in law from an Australia tertiary institution or comparable qualification.
  • 1-4 years' experience in litigation and law practice, either in private practice or in a government environment.
  • Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in an Australian Court.
  • Holder of (or eligible to hold) a current practicing certificate.
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in the following areas of law will be looked on favourably: insolvency, litigation, regulatory law, privacy law, or administrative law.
  • Resilience, strategic thinking skills, an inquiring mind, research skills, an ability to engage with risk and the political environment, and the ability to absorb new information quickly will serve you well in this role.
