A rare and meaningful opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Lawyer to join a well-established Aboriginal land rights organisation operating across the Kimberley region of northern Western Australia.

THE ROLE

This organisation has been advocating for Aboriginal land rights and native title recognition for decades and plays a critical leadership role in supporting Traditional Owners to secure, protect and manage their country, cultural heritage and economic future.

This Senior Lawyer position combines strategic litigation, advisory work and leadership responsibilities.

You will work within a multidisciplinary legal team (lawyers, anthropologists, heritage specialists and governance advisors) delivering high-quality legal services across the full spectrum of native title and cultural heritage practice.

This role offers genuine leadership opportunity, including supervising lawyers, mentoring junior practitioners and contributing to litigation strategy and legal capacity building.

Regular travel throughout the Kimberley region forms an important and rewarding part of this role.

YOU
  • Minimum 5 years’ post-admission experience (or 3+ years in native title law)
  • Experience in native title and/or related areas such as cultural heritage, environmental law, mining law, renewable energy or contract law
  • Litigation and/or mediation experience
  • Admission (or eligibility for immediate admission) in Western Australia and the High Court of Australia
  • Strong communication skills, including experience working with Aboriginal clients and diverse stakeholders
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior lawyers
  • Willingness to travel (including remote travel)
  • Current manual driver’s licence
