An excellent opportunity has arisen for a talented Employment Lawyer with approximately 3-4 years' post-admission experience to join a respected Sydney boutique CBD practice with a strong mainly employer-side employment relations focus.
This role will suit a lawyer who enjoys advisory and disputes work and who is confident working closely with employers on day-to-day workplace issues as well as more sensitive and strategically significant matters. The successful candidate will advise a broad client base including in the media, IP, and retail industries on employment law, employee relations and litigation.
Key Responsibilities
You will work across a broad range of employer-side employment matters, including:
- advising on employment contracts, policies and workplace procedures
- providing practical advice on recruitment, onboarding and termination
- assisting clients with performance management, investigations and disciplinary processes
- advising on unfair dismissal, general protections and discrimination claims
- supporting clients in workplace disputes, conciliations and conferences, mediations and litigation
- preparing pleadings, submissions and settlement documentation
- advising on intellectual property, moral rights, confidentiality and privacy in an employment context
- working directly with clients to deliver commercially sound, timely and pragmatic advice
- contributing to business development initiatives and maintaining strong client relationships
To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:
- 3-4 years' post-admission experience in employment law or workplace relations
- solid employer-side (and some executive employee) experience gained in a recognised law firm or specialist workplace practice
- demonstrated experience in performance management, employment contracts, unfair dismissal and general protections matters and workplace disputes
- strong drafting, technical research and file management skills
- confidence appearing in or preparing matters for the Fair Work Commission and, where relevant, courts or tribunals
- excellent communication skills and a client-focused approach
- sound commercial judgement and the ability to balance legal risk with practical business outcomes
- the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
